Neck Pain
Neck Pain is one of the most common symptoms we hear about in our office.
When you’re experiencing serious neck pain, it can be hard to go about your day to day activities. (You’d be surprised just how often you turn your head— but if you have neck pain, you’ll become all too aware of the frequency!) Fortunately, chiropractic care can help treat neck pain safely and effectively.
Let’s look into the symptoms related to neck pain as well as the causes.
Symptoms of Neck Pain
If you notice the following, you should consider consulting your chiropractor.
- Headache
- Inability or decreased ability to move your head, from side to side or up and down
- Tightness of muscles or spasms
- Pain that increases when you hold your head in one place
If you’re experiencing these symptoms, you may wonder what’s behind them. Let’s look into the causes of neck pain.
Causes of Neck Pain
Injury— If you’re involved in an auto accident, particularly if you’re rear-ended, whiplash is an unfortunately common injury. This occurs when your head is jerked back and then forward, an action that strains the neck’s soft tissues.
Disease— There are a variety of conditions that can result in neck pain, ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to meningitis. Your chiropractor can help you determine what’s behind your neck pain.
Muscle strain— If you’re like most people, your posture is less-than-stellar, especially when you’re working on your computer or scrolling on your smartphone. (There is a condition referred to as “text neck,” referring to the head-down position most people take as they engage with their phone.) This kind of motion can lead to muscle strain.
