Spinal Decompression: A Non-Surgical Approach to Back Pain Relief

Oftentimes, we find ourselves in pain and  trying everything to just get through it. Some days, the pain is a little less or a little more, but always there. We try everything, pain relievers, muscle relaxants, heat or cold and nothing will resolve it. So what’s the next step?

We have several options that lie ahead. Our first choice at Stones River Chiropractic, is always going to be to recommend chiropractic as an excellent option. But occasionally a patient might need added therapies. We have a Cold Laser Therapy available for soft tissue discomfort that we like to use when the spine is moving, but the muscles surrounding it may still be sore. However, sometimes the pain comes from injured or degenerated disks, and chiropractic and laser therapy can not always help with the pain. But recently, we have added a NEW therapy to our practice: DECOMPRESSION!

Decompression is a gentle, motorized traction that uses gentle weight to gradually pull on the spine. This kind of therapy addresses several different conditions that affect the disks between the vertebrae:

  • Bulging disks
    • When the cushions between the vertebrae bulge out and need space to go back
  • Degenerative disks
    • When the cushion wears out and doesn’t receive nutrients or proper fluid flow
  • Pinched nerves
    • When numbness and tingling occur to the extremities and other parts of the body
  • Sciatica
    • Damage to the sciatic nerve, sending pain radiating down the leg
  • Spinal stenosis
    • Narrowing of the spaces due to bone spurs, bulging or herniated disks

Unfortunately spinal injuries and degeneration happen and can cause pressure on your spinal cord and nerves. But not all is hopeless. We can offer chiropractic, cold laser therapy, and decompression. All under one roof! Following a medical plan laid out between yourself (the patient) and Dr. James (the doctor) will give you a better chance at a higher quality of life.
